Billing Email

Is it illegal to live somewhere and put down a billing address somewhere else?

I recently moved out of my parents' house into my in laws' house with my fiancee. I've had all my mail sent to and my "official" billing address at my parents' house. I understand that my income would affect the household income greatly and change tax status. I am also concerned about breaking any laws... I am soon thinking of changing my mailing address anyway, but we are again moving this summer to a bigger house, so is it even worth it? Most of my bills are e-bills anyway, but snail mail is still very important.

  1. it may or may not be illegal. im not sure, my aunt does it with my grandma, but that doesnt nececcarily mean it's right. but seeing as you are moving soon, i see no harm in leaving it the way it is.
  2. no. any one can have an "official mailing address" to receive mail. no need to change address each and every time you move, as long as you have your parents ok to receive mail at their address.
  3. It's not illegal to get your mail at a different location. You are fine. As a matter of fact there is no law stating you HAVE to get your mail and live in the same location; many people rent mail boxes that are away from their homes, and it's legal. What you can't do is to claim to be living at your parents' home.
